By jodehumphries | Thursday, November 25, 2010, 11:46
Nick Blackwell from Trowbridge has just won the title of ‘youngest English title holder’ following a points decision against Harry Matthews, to finish with the middleweight belt. Having someone from Trowbridge achieve a title like this, I thought that here at Trowbridge People, we better catch up with the 20-year-old from Trowbridge to find out a bit about him.

Nick Blackwell from Trowbridge. Thank you to Jeff Barrett for the photo.
1. How did you get into boxing?
I got in to boxing to sort out my teenage temper! Lol.
2. What dedication does boxing involve, with the likes of training?
You have to give a lot of things up, like not going out with your mates whilst you’re training. You have to eat the right food and obviously keep the hard training up!
3. How does it feel to be the youngest English title holder and have a 100% winning record as a professional?
It feels amazing; I can’t really explain it to be honest! Yeah it means a lot, but I have had to sacrifice a lot of things for it and I’ve had to train so hard!
4. How did the nickname ‘Bang Bang’ come about?
The name came about from the unlicensed boxing where I won a lot of my fights by KO, so my trainer just called me ‘bang bang’. Lol.
5. Does it feel strange to you reading stories about yourself on the internet, or do you avoid reading them?
Yeah it does feel really weird, but it’s nice to see people notice what you’re achieving!
6. What do you hope to achieve from a career in boxing?
I would like to win a lot more titles and just keep getting the respect of people.
7. What does the next year hold for you?
Over the next year, I’ll probably be defending the title once or twice, and then I’ll fight for the British title!
We wish Nick all the luck for the future and hope he keeps us up to date on how he’s doing.

ReportThat's very impressive to be the youngest middleweight. Did he train in Trowbridge? Is there a good gym here?
