Has the Trowbridge snow affected you?

In the space of a few weeks, Trowbridge has been covered in snow twice – all great for the Christmassy effect, but in reality it can cause chaos for travel and those all important Christmas plans and shopping.

The weekend before Christmas is normally when people head out to get the last few bits of shopping, or in the case of some people, do all their shopping. This weekend, as we woke on Saturday to a snow covered Trowbridge the plans to get the Christmas shopping done looked in doubt.

Now on Wednesday, a blanket of snow still covers Trowbridge, leaving roads and paths slippery, and people avoiding using their cars. Personally, I haven’t driven my car since Friday morning, and have taken to walking when I need to. As I discovered yesterday, there’s one big problem with walking, the paths don’t seem to have been gritted. Walking past the site of the old Peter Black’s yesterday, the paths were slushy and dangerously slippery, meaning you had to take your steps slowly.

Another disadvantage to walking is cars driving too fast along the sludgy roads and spraying the slush that lies at the side of the road all over you.

Do you think that the paths should have been gritted as well as the roads? But saying this, the Wiltshire Times reported yesterday that grit levels in the county are starting to run low. Graeme Hay, Wiltshire Council's head of road services, said the “county has just 7,500 tonnes of salt left after a week of heavy gritting of major routes to cope with the heavy snow and freezing temperatures.” Should we be concerned that we’re only in December and grit levels are running low after the freezing temperatures we have witnessed?

According to reports, Trowbridge is not due much more snow in the next 24 hours, do you welcome this news, or would you like to see more snow?
