One of the main resolutions people make each year is to join the gym and get in shape. Some people make the resolution and stick to it, while others just have the idea and never go with it. So you make the resolution and stick to it, where are the gyms and fitness centres in Trowbridge? I have to admit that I didn’t realise there was so many places to workout in Trowbridge until I started to write this article.

Personally, I have a membership with DC Leisure which I use at Castle Place Leisure Centre. For this, I pay £34 a month and that gives me access to not only the gyms in the area, but free classes and swimming at the likes of Trowbridge Sports Centre. The team at Castle Place will design a programme for you for your specific needs to tone up the areas you want toned.

As I said, there are many gyms and fitness centres in the area, so you have many choices. TLC has a ladies only gym if you feel you’d rather only work out around other women (feel free to insert jokes here men!). The TLC gym has won Wiltshire’s best gym three times and offers a wide range of memberships, depending what you are looking for. For £28 you can get their gold membership which allows unlimited use of the gym during opening hours, plus allows you use of the daytime ab-attack, gym ball and step and tone classes. TLC also does zumba, boxercise and pole fitness if a standard gm routine isn’t for you.

The Contender Gym & Fitness Studio is another option for all your fitness needs. They offer a range of membership options and no contracts, they look at your lifestyle, design a personal fitness program, monitor your progress and up-date your programs on a regular basis. The Contender Gym & Fitness Studio is split so that you have the fitness studio with the likes of cross trainers, then you have The Contender Gym, which features an 18ft boxing ring and a range of punch bags and speed balls. Membership for the Fitness Studio is £30 per month, or £50 for a joint membership. They also offer business memberships.

Another choice in Trowbridge is ClubHealth where you can get a membership for £27 for a minimum of a six month contract. If you are able to attend the gym in off peak membership, they are currently offering an £18 per month contract which enables you to use the gym between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Their health club offers items such as, a personalised fitness program, a state of the art 10 station hydraulic circuit which provides a full body workout and a free weight suite complete with cable crossover and power cage for full body tone and strengthening.

If you want to try something different again, then there is Revolution Gym. They offer classes in karate, kickboxing, jujitsu, martial arts and self defence. The gm offers the first class for free so that you can try it out to see if it’s for you or not.

What do you do to exercise in Trowbridge? Are you planning on making the New Years Resolution to exercise more?

Try your headphones on the machines a good proportion of them wont work or if they do it crackles or you dont get all the channels. There is ALWAYS at least one rowing maching out of order, one of the sit down cyles and 1 of the cross trainers have been making awful knocking noises since we started going and on commenting to a member of staff about the cross trainer 3 years ago they said 'yeah its faulty we know about it' but nothing was ever done

Dont get me wrong we like going and get a good work out and Ive been to worse gyms but Ive also been to better (when I lived in Bristol so to far to go now)
It just annoys me that we pay so much a month but none of the money is put back into making it a great gym to visit when all it needs is some TLC.

lucydave you only pay £29 as a student, single memberships for non students are more than that.

However lucydave is right about the classes, the few I attend are great (although a bit intimidating when you first start going but thats to be expected) they book up quick though due to high number of members which is a shame as lots of people miss out.

Most of the staff are really helpful yes and I have no problem with them, its simply the faulty and grubby kit that bothers me.

You get a good price Lucy :) It costs me a bit more - £35 from the 1st April I think - it makes me use it though!

And just so it doesn't confuse which comment Lucy is referring to, the newest one goes to the top of the list!

The above comment is absolute RUBBISH!!! I've been going to castle place for 3 years and couldn't be happier.. I was a member of fitness first for a few months and it was about 3x the price, and had so many loopholes etc...had to join up for 12 months etc. Luckily i left in the trial period!! The deposit here is only £20 and as a student I only pay £29 per month and when i'm at uni, i pay £5 a month to stay a member which i think is great. Its a lovely gym, great classes and such helpful and friendly staff always around if you need help. Don't know where "traceyhowes" is going!

My husband and I are members if DC Leisure but we wouldnt really reccomend it. Joint membership is around £65per month (theyve put it up a few times without informing us), we only go off peak but they dont do discounts, the equipment is always dirty and most of it has some fault or another. Theyve oversold memberships so if you go between 16:00 - 19:30 you will have to queue for up to 15 minutes at a time for a go on any piece of cardiovascular equipment.

Could be a great gym with a little work so its a shame about the way its run, be great when they close it and build the new combined gym and pool building thats in planning stage.

If there was any other real alternative we would leave but the Club Health is only open until 19:30 or 20:30 throughout the week and we tend to go later than this due to work and TLc is women only so not an option for a couple.
