Wiltshire Police are distributing posters to people who do not wish to be disturbed by Trick or Treaters tonight.

The posters will be used to put in people's windows to stop children and young people knocking on their door for treats.

There have also been posters in shop windows stating that eggs and flour will not be sold to anyone under 18 to stop anti-social behaviour and property damage.

This campaign has been put in place to make sure people have an enjoyable and safe Halloween.

Keep safe this Halloween:

• Any children under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

• Stick to an area you are most familiar with.

• Make sure the treat you receive is wrapped in a wrapper you recognise as homemade sweets maybe suspicious.

• Wrap up warm under your costume to avoid becoming unwell.

• If someone is unable to offer you any treats, politely walk away.

Do you think the posters are a good idea or a step too far and spoiling the fun? Comment below!

I think it is a shame that people ruin it for others and that the police have to result in such dramatic measures. I do hope the children get lots of treats anyways! Naomi.

I can understand why it might get on people's nerves but each year there seems to be less and less people coming to the door. If this was introduced years ago then I could understand the campaign. Also not selling eggs or flour to anyone under 18?! Give me a break! That is the most ridiculous thing ever!

I am so annoyed about this!!! It happens once a year and there is hardly any trouble in Trowbridge anyways. I can understand if someone is elderly and the idea frightens them though. Each year I find Halloween in Trowbridge pleasant and great fun. The children in my area have some great costumes too! Shame the grumpy people are bringing a great evening down. Also good shout about the treats being in wrappers! I guess you do have to be careful! P x
