Students across Trowbridge are celebrating the success of their A-Level exam results today.

It has been announced that the pass ratings across the country have reached record levels with more students achieving grades A*-E.

The John of Gaunt School, part of the 6th Form Centre which has a population of 98 students studying A-Levels, received a 97% pass rate this year including 17 A* grades.

Head Teacher of The John of Gaunt School, Andy Packer said: "The overall feeling about the current years is that they have done very well and with some terrific individual results."

The school also found an increase in pass rates in A-Level Mathematics and Business Studies.

"I know we are very pleased with our Maths A-level results and Business Studies and so we have seen improvements in those areas," Mr Packer added.

Celebrations were temporarily put on hold as students were unable to access their UCAS accounts to see what university they would be attending.

The UCAS website crashed this morning following a high demand from students trying to find out the results of their university places. However, UCAS have said that any questions or queries can be answered through social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

Despite the website failing, students were still able to receive their results on time, with schools opening as early as 8am.

Andrew Avison, Chair of Governors at the school expressed his feelings towards the results: "It's good to see so many of our students achieving high grades and a number of them will go onto successful universities.

Now with an even higher number of students making the grade, will this make getting into university more competitive? Comment below.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but this is ALL LIES.
I am a student at John of Gaunt who was in the year featured above and we were all told we had scored some of the WORST A-levels the school had seen.
John of Gaunt is a great school and sixth form but I am shocked that Andy has tried to turn this failure into some sort of success where the school can come off well.
I think he should be ashamed of himself as it is obvious from this that he doesn't care about student results as much as making his new academy née school look good.
I urge all that see and read this not to believe it and to read between the lines. No boy in my year got an A and there was a 25% exam fail rate (not mentioned, confirmed by Mrs Brunt head of sixth form)

Despite all the stick youths are getting in the press because of the latest riots, at least we can say Trowbridge students have their heads well and truly screwed on.

    Lovely pictures too!
